These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of Netsuke.AI (the "Service"), operated by Netsuke.AI ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Netsuke.AI is an experimental website that brings together knowledge on netsuke and sagemono and provides an AI chatbot to summarise and surface information from various sources. The Service is provided for research and informational purposes only.
We may change, suspend, or discontinue the Service (in whole or in part) at any time, including because it is experimental and may not be maintained indefinitely.
2. Accounts and login
- Registration requires a valid email address. Sign-in uses one-time "magic links" sent to that address rather than a password.
- You are responsible for maintaining control of your email account. Anyone with access to your email may be able to sign in as you. Keep your email account secure.
- You must provide accurate information and are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.
- You must be old enough to enter into a contract in your jurisdiction (and at least 16, or the applicable digital-consent age where you live) to register.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to infringe the rights of others;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems;
- scrape, bulk-download, resell, or systematically extract content or source data from the Service;
- attempt to extract, reconstruct, or redistribute the underlying third-party source materials;
- misuse the chatbot to generate unlawful, harmful, or abusive content; or
- interfere with or place an unreasonable load on the Service.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or misuse the Service.
4. AI-generated content — no guarantee of accuracy
The chatbot uses an AI language model and can produce inaccurate, incomplete, or false information. Output is generated automatically and is not reviewed by a human or by subject-matter experts before you see it.
- You must independently verify any information before relying on it.
- The Service does not provide primary source data directly. For authoritative information you should consult the relevant journals, publications, and primary sources.
- Nothing on the Service constitutes professional, valuation, authentication, financial, or legal advice.
5. Intellectual property
- The Service, its design, original text, and compilation of materials are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws.
- Third-party works referenced or summarised by the Service remain the property of their respective rights-holders. We do not grant you any rights in those underlying works.
- You may use chatbot output for your own personal, non-commercial research. You may not represent it as authoritative or as the original source material.
6. Content you submit
If you submit content (for example, feedback, or text you enter into the chatbot), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use it to operate, maintain, and improve the Service. You confirm you have the right to submit that content and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
7. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS) for hosting and Anthropic for AI language-model processing. Content you submit to the chatbot is transmitted to Anthropic to generate responses. Your use of the Service is also subject to those providers' terms where applicable. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of third-party providers.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including (to the fullest extent permitted by law) any implied warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any information it provides is accurate or complete.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service; and
- our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us (if any) in the 12 months before the claim, or £50.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (for example, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service and request deletion of your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, including if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, by notice within the Service. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, United Kingdom, and disputes are subject to the courts of England and Wales, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
